 "I just saved some $$: Thanks!" 2009-11-09
By Pamela A. Szczesniak (Bay area, CA.)
I was just on the verge of purchasing the Cuisanart electric percolator, and thankfully, I took a few minutes to read many of the posted reviews! I love a good cup of coffee, and miss the old fashioned percolators, but frankly, I am immediately turned off by improper advertising of a "glass" top, when it is plastic to start with. Secondly, it looks like these do not have a very long life. Good coffee makers are not inexpensive, and accordingly, I expect them to last more than a few months, particularly when I only making one pot in the morning every day. I think it is terrible that manufacturers have outsourced so much and sacraficed quality and apparently, pride in product at the end of the day. Moving on!

"Quality control is too big of a problem for this percolator" 2009-10-06
By Montgomery Smith Gloria Smith (Houston, TX)
I bought the .Cuisinart PRC-12 Classic 12-Cup Stainless-Steel Percolator about a year ago today. I did my research and read through the reviews. I note that now there are considerably more negative reviews than when I purchased the product, indicative that there are issues with quality control. My experience mirrors that of others. After all the glowing reviews of how this coffee pot had lasted for 10 years, or more in some case, I thought this might be a product that would last awhile. Alas, my experience with this product was just like other reviews and indicates there is a problem with the material used in the percolator.

The inferior plastic top wore out first. Although it appears to be glass it is some sort of acrylic that heat breaks down and it turns brittle. Had they made the lid to accept replaceable glass bulbs it would have been smart, but they wanted to gouge the customer out of $10 + shipping (current price) each time their inferior product breaks.

I replaced the bulb (meaning I had to buy a new lid) after about 10 months, which appears to be longer than many. I thought I might buy a couple to have one on hand for when the replacement broke so I could save on shipping charges for the 2nd, but I'm glad I didn't order it now. 2 months after replacing the top the pot was picked up to rinse out and the whole bottom dropped away. In the diagram you see the black bottom? Well that is a plastic bottom that is connected to the metal pot by screws. It turns out this plastic is also susceptible to heat that makes it brittle. Who'd have ever thought that you would need to design a percolator that can stand up to heat? Certainly not Cuisinart, evidently.

So the bottom line is the product does not hold up and is therefore not worth the money. I'm going to try the Presto now, wish me luck! By the way, the coffee perked in about 5 minutes and was always good; that is why it got 2 stars instead of one. Unfortunately, you can't make coffee in a broken machine. Skip this one unless you have money to throw away on spare parts only to have to replace the whole unit soon anyway.Cuisinart PRC-12 Classic 12-Cup Stainless-Steel Percolator

"Poor quality; poor customer service" 2009-09-13
By R. Yates
This review is not only about the product but also about the customer service - or lack thereof - from both Amazon and Cuisinart.

In March 2009 I purchased a Cuisinart Prc-12 through Amazon.com. It quit working last month (August 2009). It won't perc. Period. I contacted Amazon and they said since it was more than 30 days since I purchased the product I had to contact Cuisinart to get a refund or replacement.

So, I contacted Cuisinart and was told I could only get a replacement but would have to pay to ship the product to Cuisinart and would have to enclose $7 to have a replacement shipped back to me. I was also told that if I went back through Amazon, they would pay for shipping.

I called Amazon back. They won't pay for shipping after 30 days. So, I called Cuisinart back to let them know that they and Amazon are giving their customers conflicting information. On this call, I was told I would have to pay $10 to have Cuisinart ship a new coffeemaker to me. I said I was already told the cost was $7 and the warranty book said $7. After arguing this point with the customer rep, I was told if I sent a check for $7 it would be accepted, but if I gave my credit card number over the phone for the shipping cost it would be $10!

I not only feel ripped off because the product was poor quality, I feel I've been bounced around between Amazon and Cuisinart and feel Cuisinart tried to rip me off on the shipping costs.

So, in the future, if I ever buy a Cuisinart product again, it will be at a brick and mortar retail store where I know I can return an item under warranty and not only not have to pay for shipping but also just return the item and get a credit for the purchase price.

 "Worst Coffee Pot Ever!!!!!!!!!!" 2009-09-03
By cavernut (Tampa, FL)
After 10 years of enjoying great coffee, in our Merlita Java Perk, it finally wanted to rest. So we purchased this Cuisinart Coffee Pot. The first thing i noticed was the coffee was not hot. The next thing was the coffee was very weak, no matter how i tried to make it stronger. After only about a dozen pots of coffee it shorted out and blew the GFI in my kitchen. I sent it back and am now trying out the Farberware machine.

This coffee pot is terrible. Most of the time it doesn't perk all the way and we throw out the coffee. I sent one back already because I thought it was broken but the second one is doing the same thing. I have spent alot of money in wasted coffee and am totally disgusted.I do not recommend this to an

yone.
