I was looking for a decent looking 4-slice toaster that would get the job done. That's it. This toaster did everything I wanted and more. My previous 2-slice Egg Muffin toaster finally bit the dust after a couple of years. I'm so glad I finally decided to get a 4-slice toaster. Now I don't have to wait to toast my own waffles while my kids' waffles are toasting. The little things make the mornings go much more smoothly. The most wonderful thing I've found about this product so far is the defrost setting. In my other toaster, when you toasted a frozen item, the outside would have to get very brown (and some parts would occasionally burn) before the inside would finish warming. Often it would take two cycles of toasting. With the defrost setting, I set the toaster to level 2.5 or even 3, push the lever down, hit the defrost button and get perfectly toasted waffles, etc. every single time. They're just golden enough and the center is perfectly heated. They're never too "done".
One thing to note is that I had to get used to the settings on this toaster compared to other toasters I use. I only have to set it to 3 or so to get my items the way I want them. With other toasters, I have to set it to the middle level at least (usually 5-6). I agree with the reviewer who said that breads are created differently. You'll get different results depending on the quality of breads you toast. The instruction booklet talks about that as well. If you follow that guide and realize you don't need as much heat with this toaster, you're golden. I get evenly toasted items every time.
I'm not sure why so many people have had such varied results with the same toaster. As far as I'm concerned, this is a fantastic toaster. It looks great and works perfectly.

First I have to say we are a cuisinart house! We like all the products we have purchased and continue to expand what we have. As to this toaster, the product has always worked well but a recent event makes me give the company 5 stars. Two weeks before we were going to have guests staying for a week the toaster broke. 1 side stopped working even though the other worked fine. We had been using the toaster for about 2 years, so i went to the store and purchased a new one - same model. When I got home I noticed it had a 3yr warranty. So I called Cuisinart, gave them the serial number, they checked (I had not registered my original purchase) when they came back they asked for my name etc and said they would ship me a replacement the next day and I was to return my broken one once I had the new one. (I quickly returned my new purchase to the retailer!) WOW - no hassle, the one that arived was not a refurbished one as I had expected but new in box. Works great and the customer service was unbelievable.

I expected this toaster to last for years. It started out bad (barely toasts) and has gotten worse (only two slots work). Now that it barely functions I need to begin the search for a decent model.

I bought this toaster from a local store. It looked great. It was sturdy with a cool contemporary, yet retro design. Unfortunately, it toasts very unevenly. One side of the toast is well toasted and the other side is barely toasted. I tried the bagel setting, thinking that it may be "stuck" on that setting, but the unevenness became worse. I love the look of this toaster so much that I returned and exchanged it 2 different times just to see if I could luck out and find one that worked, but they were all defective. The third toaster I brought home to try toasted just as unevenly as the 1st and the 2nd. What a waste of time. Too bad.

The toaster works perfectly. The slots are wide and the bagel setting is a big help. I use stainless steel polish on the exterior and it keeps it looking brand new. No complaints whatsoever. When I was looking for this toaster Amazon was the best deal.
