 "Excellent so far" 2009-08-16
By Jerry (Cumberland, RI USA)
I have been using this machine for three weeks now after replacing my Briel machine that gave me 10 years of use. I have not yet used the frother.

I will say right now that I am not an espresso snob, i.e. I do not care whether the spent coffee grinds come out in a "hockey puck", I only care about the quality of the espresso that I am enjoying in the morning.

My first cup did not come out very well, almost no crema, and the crema that was there disappeared almost immediately. The coffee was so, so.

The manual states to give the coffee grind a medium tamp - wrong! I now give the coffee as hard a tamp as I can and the results are excellent, great taste and lots of high quality crema that last a long time.

I will update my review after I try the frother.

By the way, under $300 for a progammable machine that makes high quality espresso is fantastic. If you can get over the fact that it does not carry a fancy ($$$$$$$) Italian name plate, you will be quite satisfied.

 "Broken - again!" 2009-08-15
By Jennifer
I've had this espresso maker for a couple of years now, and in that time it has been broken and replaced twice (in the shop for 1-2 months each time), and it is now broken again. I take excellent care of my espresso maker, and I'm very frustrated that it doesn't seem to work well for more than a few months at a time. My biggest problem has been with the frother, which can froth milk very well when it is working properly. The problem is that it seems to loose power over time until it is no longer able to froth milk.

My warrenty has almost expired, and once it has I know that I won't bother paying for the repairs out of my own pocket - I'll just save up and buy a different brand of espresso maker that actually works.

 "very happy with it" 2009-07-23
By Eric K. Jensen (Lafayette, CO United States)
I have been "doing" my own espresso-based drinks since 1991. I have all kinds of Krups machines based on the fact that I could afford them. At first glance, I said "$300 my hairy hind quarters". However, you get a 3-year warranty and that is then a much better deal than the Krups XP4030 where I can buy it locally. On top of that, I don't have to eat up the resources of two machines that are throw-away. I had the XP4030 last just over a year; dead pump. I make 5-6 a day. I have only used this for a week, but many years of experience tells me it will pan out much better. It pushes espresso much better than the Krups ever did.

"Takes a while to work" 2009-04-29
By A. Gheytanchi
Pros: Looks fantastic, professional. Plus, it makes good espresso. I don't have anything else to compare it to, but it is ok.

Cons:

1) The machine takes about a minute and a half to actually work. Since this was my second EM 200 (the first one didn't turn on), I was patient. It takes a little while to get it going and then the lights for the one shot or two shot espresso will stop blinking and it will be ready.

2) The steamer sucks. You can only froth a little bit of milk. I haven't mastered it at all. It either always gushes out of the cup, there is too little milk to froth, or it I just find it easier to use a cheap electric milk frother.

 "i love this machine" 2008-12-28
By doglover (california)
this is my third espresso machine. my first was a Krups which i bought about 15 years ago and was steam driven. i tried a breville a couple of years ago and was not impressed. i ended up taking it back and not purchasing another one. i received this cuisinart one for christmas this year and i've used it 3 times and i love it. the espresso comes out hot (unlike the Breville i had) and the machine itself warms up quickly. i like idea of the programmable feature, though i haven't tried it yet. i probably will next time i make a shot because i like my espresso very strong. the first couple of times i turned the steam knob, it was pretty tight but has loosened up since turning it back and forth a few times. overall i'm very happy with this machine and would recommend it as a good quality mid-level espresso machine.
