"Didn't stay nice for long" 2009-12-18

Bought this less than 2 years ago; despite not having used it much, it's in bad condition. Not sure if it's discoloration or disappearance of first layer, but anyway the whole pan is mottled brown. I didn't treat it harshly, just normal cooking. I use my mom's Wolfgang Puck Cafe Collection stainless steel pan as well. In comparison, that one is much heavier and surface looks perfectly fine. So that makes me think this particular pan was not made well and it's not somehow my fault. Disappointing.

I stumbled upon this pan when looking for a lid for my 12 inch Lodge Cast Iron Skillet. The lid works great on the Lodge, but I also really like the pan. It's great for browning largish batches of chicken, and I use it for a lot of Cooks Illustrated Skillet recipes as well. It heats up more evenly than my Lodge skillet. I've had it over a year and used it frequently with no visible signs of wear. I bought 2 more as gifts for the retired chefs in the family since they liked mine so much. It's a great value (you can pay as much for just a 12 inch lid), and handles everything a skillet does except for tossing (since there's no long handle).

This is a wonderful pan. It's heavy, cooks well, and can go in the oven and dishwasher. We did, though, come back and order a set of the Cuisinart nonstick pans, which work better for things that tend to stick.

I highly recommend this line of pots/pans. This is my second, after the 14 inch fry pan. Both cook well, clean well, are durable, well made, etc.

I'm not sure why the one reviewer said it was flimsy and turned black/ruined after one use. Did you burn your food to hell and not use any cooking oil, etc? I've had no problems. Sure, sometimes food gets burned if you cook your meat a long time, but I scrub it and it's as good as new. I actually use steel wool and abrasive sponges on it, and I don't think it does any damage to the pan. I'm not a professional chef, so it works fine for me.

Lid fits nicely, and it's high so you have lots of room if you need it.

I was going to get the 12 inch fry pan w/ handle of the same Cuisinart line, but when you factor in the lid price, this was cheaper and works the same.

Recommended.

The stainless steel material is very thin, and it feels very cheap. The stainless steel coating/exterior was GONE after one use, completely blackened. I was just trying to brown some ribs and the heat was medium high. NOT worth it. Youa are much better off with Calphalon everyday pan.

I bought this pan set at Amazon about a year ago. I LOVE them! This is my first "real" set of pots and pans. I am a persistent researcher and I spent weeks researching pots and pans before I settled on this set. I learned about how the non-stick coating is bad for you - and my cheapie non stick pans had flaked up, etc... I wanted something that had NO coating on it. These pans are beautiful. They are shiny and have been easy to keep that way. I did make 1 mistake when I first got them - I used a plastic spatula in the frying pan and accidentally melted it on the frying pan when I held it too long in one place! I researched and found that cream of tartar sauce would remove it and make it like new and it did :) Whew! So, the food cooks evenly. It says in the instructions NEVER to turn your stovetop burners on high when using these pans and I go to number 7 max and that has worked perfectly. No need to go to super high heat because these pots allow water to come to a boil pretty quickly on 7 (which my old nonstick pots never did). Hmmm. Mine have not pitted. I use them everyday to cook. I put them in the dishwasher without anything touching them of course (so they don't scratch while being washed). I keep them stored without stacking and don't stack them in the sink (to prevent exterior surface scratching). So far not one single scratch! I was thinking about buying a second set as backups and/or for display on a pot rack I just bought and use the pots I already have as my everyday pots and pans. Is that crazy?

If I were to do it over again, I probably would have gone with a high end nonstick set. Stainless steel can be inconvenient. Make sure you purchase Barkeeper's Friend to remove discoloration every 3-6 months. Aside from that gripe, the set is heavy duty and well-made. It also looks more professional than nonstick.

I purchased this based on the recommendations from Cook's Illustrated. Since I can't afford the price of All-Clad, this cookware appeared to be a good value at less than half the price. I was replacing a mish-mash of worn-out non-stick and wanted something which would last longer. I have been please with its performance.

First, I had to adjust downward the burner temperatures I used on my glass-top electric stove since these pans are much more efficient. The highest level I use is slightly above half-power, and I've had no difficulties with burning or sticking. Also, do not shock hot cookware by spraying or immersing it in cold water so as to keep it from warping.

I returned my one and one-half quart pan which was pitted and was advised that it would be replaced under warranty. When my replacement arrived, I then sent in my two quart and three quart pans which were also pitted. All this pitting occurred only after five months of use. My replacement one and one-half quart pan started pitting after only being used three times. I called customer service and was advised that I could return the replacement, at my expense once again, and received another replacement. I told them that this would not solve anything since this was an obvious problem in them being manufactured in China. I wanted to return the whole set and receive a full refund as I had spent $56.54 on postage so far and the problem continues. They REFUSED to even consider paying the postage on the replaced one and a half guart pans second return. I have lost all confidence in their product brand after over 30 years of owning their products.

We did quite a bit of research before choosing this as our first full cookware set, and so far we've tested everything but the pasta insert. As far as doing what it's supposed to, we have no complaints. The pots and pans heat evenly and quickly. In fact, we never need to turn our oven higher than moderate heat just to boil water. The steamer was great for artichokes and it's so handy to have a nice big frying pan for stirfry. However, from the first use the bottoms and insides of the pans began to discolor. We cook a lot and expected some wear and tear but certainly not so quickly or to this extent. Still, I can't complain about the quality for the price.

I purchased this set from Amazon after looking them over at a local department store. They are top quality. The price was $10 cheaper on Amazon than they were at the store. I was apprehensive about using stainless steel instead of teflon but I really love it and know that it is much healthier for my family. I recently bought a canary and found out that teflon fumes will kill canaries almost immediately. My husband wondered if it would do that to a bird, what is it doing to us? My canary is safe and so is my family. The food doesn't stick like I thought it would. I usually use Pam to spray the pan first and use a lower temperature. I clean with "Bartenders Friend" Stainless Steel Cookware cleaning powder. It takes any discoloration off immediately. They shine like new. I love the pans. Thanks Rachel Ray!

"Ruined my wife's Mothers day - rebate company bankrupt - leaking sauce pot where handle connects." 2009-05-09

My wife wanted this set for Mother's day and such decided to order it a week or so ago. It arrived today. We unpacked it and read over the care instructions, etc. Just moments ago she decided to boil some eggs in the small deep sauce pot. Moments into the boil we hear this sizzling and popping coming from our ceramic stove top and there is a leak coming from the handle where it's riveted to the pot making filling the pan any deeper than where the handle attaches impossible. Despite it being a Saturday I tried the 800-214-8369 customer relations number at the bottom of the LIFETIME LIMITED WARRANTY card to see if by some small miracle a person might answer. NOPE. The recorded announcement began with how the rebate company the manufacturer used has filed for bankruptcy and that they were sorry for any inconveniences. Eventually I ended up with an option to select for warranty work if you felt you received a defective product..hmmm, you think. They give you an address and I have to assume we must pay to ship the defective item back to them. Nothing is stated about shipping cost reimbursement. Later in the recording there was an option to speak to a customer service representative, selecting that option led to yet another recording that the offices were closed. It appears there is a quality control issue with this set based on other reviews and it doesn't appear rebates will be honored. Not the best first impression of our Rachael Ray product. We'll test the rest of items for leaks and if this is the only one leaking we'll request a new pot be sent out with a prepaid shipping label to send the defective one back, otherwise the entire set is going back. HUGE INCONVENIENCE!!!

I read all the reviews,especially by chefs using this product.

Well they weren't wrong! This is a fantastic set of cookware,at a fabulous price! Any set I had found even close to these were in the $400 to $600 range.

They are so sturdy,not to heavy,and the lids fit down into the pots about 1/2",making a very snug fit and decreasing cook/boil times. Also,if anyone else looked at the pictures and thought they are glass lids,they aren't. They look so shiny in the photos,I was afraid that they were glass.(which I think glass lids are useless anyway,they steam up in two seconds).

If you have read any other reviews I have posted,you know that I "do my homework" before buying ANYTHING!

So let me save you the time I spent and JUST BUY THEM!

I got this set about two weeks ago and figured I'd use all the pieces a bit before I wrote a review. I have to admit that my first impression of the set was pure joy. I had been using a ten-year-old Revereware set, good in its own right, but there were some things I disliked about the Revereware, mainly the fact that the bottoms did not make good contact with my stove burners (ceramic top). These pots and pans were so shiny right out of the box, so much heavier than I expected, and so obviously worth the money I paid for them, that I was thrilled. They are SO much heavier than expected. Not heavy in a bad way, like you can't lift them or anything. Just not cheap and easy to dent. I had never used a frying pan not coated in Teflon, and I was a little intimidated by the fact that these are not nonstick. Since this was the very reason I bought them (Teflon is evil) I decided to dive right in. This has been my experience so far, even though I can't comment on the overall longevity of the set at this time.

*I love the finish. These are so pretty, I intend to get a pot rack and hang them for all to see!

*The lids are awesome. Nice tight fit. I think they may even be weighted. I didn't want glass lids for breakage reasons, and the lids from my old pans had a lip that trapped moisture underneath. I was forever burning myself or dripping water all over the stove every time I lifted the lid to check something.

*I chose this set over the Cuisinart set because of the three sizes of saucepans, which my old set had and I am used to.

*Love the handles! I didn't think I would at first, but they really do stay cool and are grippy so you're less likely to drop a full pot when transferring it.

*Easy to clean. I haven't tried frying an egg or anything, but I think for everything except eggs and pancakes these will be wonderful. I made pizza sauce in the larger fry pan and it cleaned up in a snap. I even melted chocolate and marshmallow for some cookies in the saucepans and those also cleaned up quite easily.

Now for a couple things that could be better:

*The set could have included a lid for the smaller fry pan. I assumed that the lid to the one of the saucepans pot would fit the smaller fry pan as well (my old set was this way) and was slightly disappointed to find that this is not the case.

*One of the saucepans has some "pitting" on the inside bottom that was not there when I opened the box. Another reviewer mentioned this too. I tried cleaning it with baking soda and water as the instructions suggest, but no dice.

*You must be very diligent about drying these IMMEDIATELY if you don't want water spots on them. I know that is the nature of the beast, my other stainless is the same, but it's a bummer. I want them fresh and shiny clean all the time, and they just don't look as nice if left to air-dry.

Just some minor gripes. They were SO worth the money, especially since the price jumped fifteen bucks the day after I ordered them, and I got a forty dollar rebate to boot. I almost spent 3 times more on a much costlier set, but I suspect I would have been paying for the name. Of course KitchenAid is also a brand name, and a darn good one at that, (I am in love with my Artisan stand mixer) so why not the pots and pans set? After reading all the positives here on Amazon, I decided to try them and I'm so glad I did!

I was initially hesitant to purchase this set because of the low price...low price usually equals low quality, not so here. These are wonderful!! Excellent weight. I like my cookware to be a little on the heavy side and these are wonderful. Heavy enough that you know you have bought something of quality but not so heavy you never want to use it. Perfect balance. The lids even are weighted. Handles are great also. Stay cool and will not slip out of your hands if you have a slick substance on your hands. And the best feature of all.... beautiful and dishwasher safe!!!

The original version of this cookware was of very reasonable quality for the price. They were thicker, they transmit the heat better and were better shaped. These new ones have the same finish or look but they are not as well constructed. Compared to the older ones they are tin like. Pots now have a narrower taller and bell like design which looks to be borrowed from Kitchen Aid. Unfortunately this design is not very efficient on larger burners and as a result they take longer to boil and heat up in general. The older ones are made in Italy and these new ones are made in Thailand. I guess Costco saw the increasing value of the Euro eating into profits so they moved to a supplier in Thailand and while they were at it reduced the quality of the product. Typical and expected for a giant American retailer. Too bad though, the older ones were a very good deal. Stay away from these Thai made ones they are inferior and retail for about the same as the older Italian made version. More profit for Costco less quality for you! The very positive reviews that you read on this cookware are reviews for the older Italian made version. I am not sure when they switched, i would say between 2006 and early 2008.

"Problems with large frying pan" 2008-12-13

My husband bought me a set of these pans five years ago to replace everything non stick we had due to my parakeet being killed by the nonstick toxins.. I have really enjoyed the pans, although they are heavy.. But.. I realized fairly recently the bottom has separated on my biggest frying pan, and soon I won't be able to use it. I am going to check and see what the warranty is/was. I hope it was lifetime. In any event.. I would be cautious about buying them again. BTW.. I have only used these pans on gas ranges. the rest of them are fine, but they haven't had the use the big frying pan has. I use this pan once or twice a week..but since it is classed as professional, I would have thought it would stand up to constant daily use, which I haven't done.

I have had the above Cuisinart Green Gourmet Cookware for 6 months now and it looks just as good as it did when I took it out of the box. I use it daily. Virtually everything just wipes off the cooking surface---this is a nice set---very reasonably priced and the only additional item I purchased was a matching large stock pot for winter soups and chili. Highly Reccomended!

I am ecstatic about these pans. The first time I used it I discovered that I could fry anything without oil, without sticking! Even the oil I did use that day, would not stick to this pan. A total surprise to me and a welcome one, as I have always watched my calories and keep oils to a minimum. True, I was looking for alternative to teflon. I am thrilled to have found out about these as I wanted a safe product but didn't want to have to struggle to cook in or clean my pans. SO grateful to know that a BIG manufacturer such as Cuisinart cares about their manufacturing environment! As a conscientious consumer, I have accepted that a product I use (but not this one) may not always be the best working product compared to the damaging, unhealthy for the environment, chemical products... and thats OK because we all need to be responsible for the earth and respect all life around us. BUT NOT THE CASE WITH THESE PANS. The Cuisinart GreenGourmet pans are the best pans I have ever used in my lifetime (and I'm an old woman... it's been a long time). Love these so much I am looking for more sizes and am buying a second set now! Getting rid of all the NON GreenGourmet pans in my kitchen. I've had these now for four months and they look as good as new. I am wanting Cuisinart GreenGourmet to make a large square flat griddle, without the ridges in it (vegetarians don't need ridges). So far, the pans are great. Lightweight, easy clean. I have been using all nonstick utensils as well, and never leave the pots and pans in the sink. They are always handwashed. As a result, they have been perfect to me. The pancakes I made yesterday were out of this world! They don't heat up as fast as I expected, but are no slower than regular cookware. I usually start temperature at high and then bring it down.

I like the idea of environmentally friendly cookware, and the product is light weight so it is easy to handle.

In the 10 piece set I bought, the bottom of the 10 inch deep fry pan is not flat and it wobbles on the cooktop. I called customer service and was told to ship it to them (at my expense) with a check for $7 (return shipping) and wait 4 to 6 weeks for their evaluation or repair. I don't think this is a reasonable way to deal with a product defect.

Not much on long-winded reviews - so here is the nitty gritty:

PROS:

- Well constructed: heats evenly and quickly - just as advertised.

- Super easy to clean - these pans completely redefine the term "non-stick"

- Weight: Not something you think about often, in terms of cookware - but I've found the light-weight in these pans to be quite the perk - especially when it comes to weilding these around a stove

CONS:

- Handles/lids can get quite hot - which is the one reason I couldn't give these 5 stars.

This item has made me happy since I bought it. Although, I would only wash them by hand....it did end up discoloring slightly on the bottom when I washed one in the dishwasher immediately after buying them. I continue to give them 5 stars, esp for the price, and the glass lids are great to see what's happening with your food. Handles don't heat up and burn you either.

I like this set of cookware. It is a good buy for the money, and it seems as if it will hold up well. Just don't set the heat too high as it will quickly burn what is cooking and you will have to deal with the mess. These pots and pans cook well on a lower heat setting. If you cook on a lower setting, clean-up is a breeze!!
