"Not a great coffeemaker" 2009-10-30

I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS COFFEEMAKER!!

I had chosen this coffeemaker because of the design (goes with the other stainless kitchen appliances) and that it is made by Cuisinart, which I thought makes good appliances. This coffeemaker has worked "perfectly" for me only twice out of about 8 tries, after which I gave up. It's sitting (pretty) on my counter but will only be used as a back-up.

The carafe tends to dribble when the water is poured into the reservoir and when I pour the coffee! If you hold the carafe "just right" (I haven't quite figured out what that is) it won't dribble. Too much trouble! I want to just pour my coffee!!

Another drawback, IMO, is that the coffee basket is basically pointed so you can't set it on the counter to pour your coffee grounds into the filter because it tips onto its side. This is troublesome for me because I grind my beans and usually pour the grounds directly from the grinder. Twice I've had the grinds go over the sides of the filter and make a mess. I suppose I could've spooned the grinds in, but it's actually hard to spoon coffee grinds out of the grinder with the blade in the middle of things.

Another feature that's supposed to be an asset is that it automatically shuts off after 30 minutes. My pattern in the morning is to make coffee, take a shower, pour my first cup, do other things, and then come back for the 2nd cup, which I would like to be hot. Nope! This baby shuts off and the coffee cools down real fast!!

I have heard better reviews by friends of $20 Mr. Coffees!!

I am back to using my French press.

I purchased this pan as a "deal of the day". There was a description of a chrome trimmed lid within the item information, but when the pan arrived - no lid! No mention of a lid in the owner's instruction. It would have been very hard to use this as a warming dish without the aforementioned lid, so I had to return the grill pan. It just wasn't worth the price.

If you are interested in this type of cooker, you should be aware that dispite being advertized three times in the product review that it comes with "a tempered glass lid with chrome rimming" There IS NO LID!!! I contacted Amazon about this as soon as I received the cooker and a week later still no responce back. I finally gave up on them and asked for a return slip. Actually I would have preferred to keep the cooker but without the lid it would have been useless to me and not worth the high price I paid even thought it was a gold box deal.

At the time I ordered this, the Amazon product description stated in two places that a "tempered glass lid" was included.

It is not.

It is not shown on the packaging or referenced in the manual. There are some other counter-top cooking appliances in this Cuisinart product line which do include a glass lid.

I kept this a few days to decide if I wanted to keep it anyway (I bought it in a Gold Box deal), but finally decided that without a lid of some kind, the potential for making a large mess on the counter top was just too great.

This is the best grill ever!!! It is as functional as it is attractive. Favorite features include the cast iron cooking surface, thermometer, stainless steel fold away shelves, and stationary legs. I have cooked the best boneless chicken breasts in my life. Tender, juicy, and perfectly cooked. Thanks to the thermometer. The cast iron cooking surface heats up quickly and evenly. I also love the fact that I KNOW what cast iron is. Heats up quickly and provides great grill marks. Clean up is a breeze. Also, purchased the cover. I am impressed with both. I emailed community with question about whether you could hook grill up to propane tank and how to do it. I received response stating that you need an adaptor hose. My husband bought the adaptor hose at Home Depot for $25.00 and connected it to propane tank. Very easy. We used the grill several times since then. It is wonderful. Steaks come out great, grill lines, perfect cooking. I made homemade pizzas, grilled vegetables, hamburgers. Terrific. Great grill. Would recommend to everyone.

I purchased this Cuisinart grill because I was looking for a tabletop grill to take tailgating at NASCAR events and my wife to take to dog shows. After researching all the grills, this one looked to be a step up from the other ones available in this price range. We also have other Cuisinart appliances and trust the name. The body is made of stainless steel and each side table is stainless as well, unlike the plastic ones of the other models I looked at. It has a heavy cast grate that I love and comes with a vegetable tray which comes in handy with a vegetarian daughter. I am typically a charcoal man, but do not like to mess with charcoal when tailgating or fire up the big grill for something small.

The grill arrived in its own packaging. When I opened it up, I found it to be well packaged and all the contents to be in great shape, which I was surprised given the treatment my packages typically get by UPS. Heavy foam and cardboard enclosed all the parts.

Assembly was a snap with just 4 screws and washers that screw into the short stand the grill sits on. I sprayed the grate with non-stick spray to season it. It does not say to do this in the instructions, but I always do with new grills to make sure the food does not stick and it is easy to clean. When I fired it up I immediately noticed that it preheated very fast. It was up to 500 degrees in just a few minutes. I was pleasantly surprised how well it worked on my first meal of chicken.

We have had this grill about 8 weeks now and use it around 2 - 3 times each week We keep in on a table on our deck near the charcoal grill. I find myself running out with a couple frozen burgers for lunch or some chicken tenders at dinner time to complement a salad. This avoids heating up the stove in the summer time and having to clean up a mess. The grill gets hot quickly and I end up turning the temp down unless I have a very full load. I liked being able to grill with the lid down to control any flare-ups and maintain better overall cooking. Some other grills do not let you cook with the lid down. A bottle of propane seems to last us a long time, but I guess that depends on your cooking habits.

It has two handles and my wife and I find it easy for one of us to carry in and out of the truck and car and set up. The side tables both turn in and store under the lid. They turn out and snap in place when ready to use.

I found cleanup to be easy as the grate easily removes. Grease either burns off on the flame guard or runs into the grease tray that slides out under the grill. I typically do not clean out the inside very much unless I cook something that builds up a lot of ash and burnt on food parts. The outside stainless wipes off easily and looks like a new grill again each time.

I would recommend this grill to anyone that wants an easy to use, great looking grill that I am sure will last for many years.

I could live with the constantly running fan, but when it stopped cooling, I returned it to the retailer who had since discontinued carrying the item. I got this for my parents at their specific request despite one bad review on Amazon. They say it is working perfectly (keeps temperature well) and is a perfect size for their needs. This is my 2nd attempt at writing a review of this product. We were genuinely excited when we purchased this particular unit. That excitement quickly faded as we learned that it has serious design flaws.

1st: The troubleshooting section states:

The inside temperature does not seem correct - The room may be too hot. Example: if the ambient temperature is 80*F or higher, the unit can have difficulty chilling adequately on the white wine setting.

The white wine setting should be about 45*F according to the users manual. Having said that, I took the temperature where the unit is. It is 78*F (I live in Southern AZ where it is hot for 8 months out of 12). I first tried to set the wine cooler temp to 52*F. No dice, the display continued to flash indicating that it was not reaching that temp.

I tried setting it to 58*F. No dice. The display continued to flash. I tried setting it to 65*F. Still no dice.

The other major problem is that as others have reported, the unit will build up quite a bit of condensation on the inside bottom of the unit. It built up so much that it spilled out onto the counter where we have the unit.

I emailed Cuisinart about the problems. I even took a picture of the unit with a digital thermometer on top of the unit clearly showing the room temp to be 78*F. The unit display was blank indicating that it was flashing meaning that it could not reach the set temperature. I had the unit set to 65*F.

I went back and forth with their customer service. They kept giving me canned nonsense answers, and did not read my original email at all. After many back and forth, they finally agreed to replace the unit.

However, after reading some of the other reviews, I am NOT confident that the replacement unit will be any better. If it has problems, I am going to demand a full refund. I doubt that I will get one, but I will demand it anyway.

It is a shame that the unit is so problematic. We have a Cuisinart knife set, and could not be happier with it. The same goes for my Cuisinart coffee maker.

I received this for a wedding gift and it lasted 8 months before it just quit working. It was nice while it lasted. Good thing I was able to take it back for a store credit. When i took it back to the store 2 people i had talked to there had similar stories with their Cuisinart wine cellar.

I received this Cuisinart 11 bottle cooler from a friend who said, "the thermostat does not work right." He knew I could probably fix it.

When I turned it on, the cooler ran all the time, the "cellar" did not cool off, but the outside heat exchanger was very hot.

The problem appeared to be that the original fan had collected dust on its blades, and the internal thermoelectric cooler's finnned heat sink was likewise full of dust. If cooling air can't flow over the heat sink, the thermoelectric Peltier-effect cooler can't work properly. I figured if I cleaned out the dust all would be well. It wasn't. The fan still hummed away full-time, and the hot side of the thermoelectric pile was above 200 degrees F. Yes, it would boil water. Since I couldn't fix it I redesigned it.

I took out the original fan, a small and inadequate air mover. I bought two decent industrial 4" square 12VDC 0.17A brushless DC fans and installed them on the outside of the cabinet. The lower fan pulls air in, the upper fan exhausts. This took some ducting work, drilling and cutting of the plastic outer cover, by the way. The two fans are powered by the same switched controller that ran the original internal fan. Cut off the wires to the old fan, solder the two new fans' power leads on and Bob's your uncle.

After these modifications, the air flow across the thermoelectric heat sink is now adequate. The two new fans are about as noisy as the original -- BUT they run only about 30% of the time when holding 59F interior in an 80F room. The heatsink temperature is now about 120F.

My total cost was $18 for the two fans and two fan fingerguards, and nothing for the Cuisinart.

So, I give this product a 3-star rating as "upgrade-ready do-it-yourself" raw material. As a consumer ready product it is a failure. Cuisinart should be ashamed to have their badge on the front.

Do not be deceived by the Cuisnart brand name. This unit is unreliable and should not be used to store any bottles of wine that you value.

While the fan continued to run as normal, this unit not only quit cooling but also started to HEAT the nine bottles of wine I was aging. Instead of the 68 degrees that the theromostat displayed, the wine was 95!!. My home thormostat is set at 78 so I would have been much better off just putting my wine in a closet.

We were given this cooler as a gift and while it was nice to have a small cooler to keep some of our better wines, it turned itself into an oven and instead of chilling our wine it heated it! When I called cuisinart they said it was under warranty and they would send us a new one if we paid the $10 shipping cost but that we had to send the broken one back to them at our expense and by the way it weighs 30 lbs. We chose to put it out with the trash. I can not recommend this product nor will i buy any other cuisinart items.

My old pizza oven recently died and I needed a replacement. The door on this Cuisinart is attached and swings down, then you have to slide out the grate with a spatula or anything else you can find to avoid burning your hands.

I much prefer the door / grate combination, where you can just grasp the handle, pull out the door, and slide the pizza onto a waiting pan.

It's a little smaller and lighter than my old one, but I'm finding I'm using my oven instead - larger space, less likely to burn myself.

Also, the instructions to preheat 30 minutes before using - not going to happen ever.

For a gourmet / fresh pizza cook it's probably a good fit. For a frozen pizza lover, keep looking.

This looks damn good but a bit heavy and using quite some space.

I'm about to move from europe to the caribbean and I looking for a good 110v pizza oven.

does this one have a top stone element also ?

I think I might just go for the new Ferrari oven, anyone knows where to get it in the Us?

It's selling very well on the euro market.
