"Would not order this again" 2009-01-12
By Just a careful consumer
I ordered this in red, and it is not as pretty in real life as it is in the amazon picture. The big reason for the low rating, though, is that the quality of hte product is not what I expected. In particular, the tongs are not rigid enough for my use. The silicone bends under normal pressure and that makes it difficult to use. also the metal scrapes on metal when i pull the open/close latch in and out, which can sound like fingers down a chalkboard.

Very good for food that has some kind of coating,

picks it out of the pan easily. Especially gentle on teflon or any non stick cook wear, will not stratch it.

Then go with the Ninja Master Prep. I bought both and the Cusinart turned an onion into mush. When i tried to just pulse it the pieces were very inconsistant, so I pulsed a little

more and it turned it to mush. On the New Ninja Master Prep. It has only pulse one speed, but its more powerful and the mini base has four blades, two like the cusinart and two more above them so if you put a half an onion in and give it one short pulse your done. I had to chop garlic the Ninja chopped it up perfectly. Its more money than the mini cusinart but its a much

better unit.

"Cheap imitation of the larger models." 2009-08-12
By R. Norbauer (Beverly, MA USA)
I own an 11 cup pro from Cuisinart and love it. I bought this item in hopes of having a smaller version to use for smaller jobs like dressings, etc., which wouldn't take up as much space in the dishwasher. However, don't be fooled: though this item looks like the larger models, it has an underpowered motor (which smells of burning rubber when running) and a cheap, dinky blade. Quite simply: it feels like a cheap piece of junk. I plan to return it immediately.

"Very Annoying Wire Rack, NOT Stainless" 2009-09-27
By nobody
I would really like this product if it was not flawed in a very bad way -- the wire rack, when positioned in the recommended toasting/baking position, has a 1/4" wire that prevents one from sliding their food out and onto a plate. It's as if they made the rack upside down. If one tries to reverse it, the food is too close to the top elements, causing it to burn on top before getting cooked from below. If one tries to place it in the bottom rack, the opposite happens. This is actually quite dangerous -- imagine a child cooking a pizza and then trying to slide it out of the oven and it gets caught on this obstruction and then they apply more force until it spills all over them, scalding their arm or face.

Also, the timer doesn't shut the oven off -- it just beeps! It also has no seconds indicator, but that's sort of minor.

The convection function is nice, but has kind of a loud fan.

This item is NOT stainless throughout -- that's just silver paint on the top and sides.

This takes a long time to toast regular bread and leaves it very dry and way too crunchy on the inside.

For this price, they should have included two types of racks -- one for the higher position, one for the lower position, both with entirely unobstructed smooth wire surfaces. Dangerous at worst, extremely annoying and crumbs all over the place at best. Cooks most food well though (like frozen wings, pizza, appetizers).

 "My favorite appliance!" 2009-09-26
By BeBe (Olive Branch, MS)
This oven has replaced my large and small ovens. I keep it on a cart. After reading the complaints about the crumb tray being in the back, I decided a cart would be a perfect place to keep it. I can get to it at any angle freely.

It preheats very fast, cooks fast, and saves me money and time. I purchased three stones before I ever found the right one to use in it. The best one is a Pampered Chef small stone. It fits perfectly in this toaster oven.

I enjoy cooking open faced sandwiches (Tartine) and this oven cooks them just the way I like them. I have cooked pizzas, biscuits, cookies, stuffed peppers with couscous and eggplant, garlic bread, baked potatoes, french fries. It warms up leftover pizza and leftover french fries nicely. This oven is fantastic. The cookbook that comes with it is terrific; you can go to the Cuisinart Website and get more recipes to use in it. I try new recipes every week, and I have enjoyed every recipe in this cookbook I have tried. I suggest reading the instructions completely and referring to them a lot at first.

I absolutely never use my big oven or even my small oven anymore except for huge amounts of food I cook when my family comes home. Every home should have one of these ovens!

"Great Little Oven with a Limited Life Span" 2009-09-20
By Dave - Free as Can Be (Franklin, TN)
We have had a number of these great little ovens, or their predecessors, over the years and have not found another make that has all of the useful features, sufficient size or quality in the same price range. So if these ovens are so good, why have we bought so many? Well, the convection fan motors begin to wear out after 3-4 years of heavy high temperature use and become noisier as time passes. Eventually the noise becomes loud enough as to be annoying. At that time we will be on the lookout for sales or special offers on a new one. We like this oven so much that we are more than willing to accept that it will not last much over 3-4 years with the heavy use it receives in our kitchen. We have double full size built-in convection ovens in our kitchen, as well as a full size microwave oven above the range, a small infrared oven, and a commercial convection oven stowed away on a cart that we wheel into the kitchen when necessary; but it is the little Cuisinart that gets turned on more than any other oven in our kitchen because it is so useful in cooking or warming smaller items. The Cuisinart gets less use when we are having company of relatives and/or friends that may happen twice a week. All the other times, it is just my wife and I preparing meals for ourselves, and this is when the Cuisinart excels.

We have found that the temperature of the Cuisinart is consistent within its own numerical settings, but may be consistently different from an oven thermometer. In other words, if there is a variance, it remains fairly constant and should be taken into account when cooking. Also, because of the relatively small size of the oven, food will be closer to the heating elements than the heating elements in larger ovens and a reduction in temperature of 25-50 degrees may deliver more even results that the temperature you would use in a larger oven. Also, because of the oven's small size, preheating will make cooking more even as well. The Cuisinart has an aluminum crumb tray that conveniently slides out from the back of the oven. We recommend that you fit non-stick aluminum foil to the crumb tray to keep grease or corrosive burnt food drippings from accumulating on an unprotected crumb tray. Sometimes the cold drippings can be just brushed off the non-stick foil without having to replace the foil as frequently. Also. when cleaning the outside of the glass door and the control panel, use small amounts of liquid cleaner because it can leak into areas underneath the control panel. We have had such a leak, but the oven continued to operate normally.

We recommend the Cuisinart convection/toaster oven without reservation other than the issues discussed above. Otherwise we would have rated it with 5 stars. It is a great little oven with a limited life span.

 "Only one drawback" 2009-09-13
By Christopher Weiss (Okemos, Michigan USA)
We have had this toaster oven for two months, and overall we are very happy. We have teenagers who have burned up multiple toaster ovens by setting the toast time too high and walking away. The digital controls on this toaster oven make this type of error impossible.

The cooking consistency is very good. Sometimes things appear under-toasted on the first cycle until the oven warms up. However, this is a minor inconvenience. We have a large family, and this toaster goes through multiple cycles each morning with bagels, toast, tortillas, pitas, etc.

The only serious drawback we have seen is the metal lip on the door. This gets very hot, and when a reasonably tall person reaches for the door, your fingers are likely to brush up against the metal. My wife and I have been burned at least 3 times each. We now know to give some extra clearance when grasping the handle. You cannot grab it in a fist, or you will burn your knuckles. This tendency to burn yourself on the door rim is the only reason I cannot give this unit 5 stars.

 "Worth the Extra Money" 2009-09-13
By Kenneth Berg (Brandon, FL USA)
Our old toaster oven finally bit the dust, so I researched a replacement. This Cuisinart was a bit more expensive than others that I was considering, but after reading the existing reviews I decided to give it a try. Some of my reasons for deciding on this model were: optional convection baking, large interior, and stainless steel throughout. The convection baking mode shaves time off preperation of many items while also letting you reduce the cooking temperature. The pan is large enough to cook a medium frozen pizza, without having to wait for a full size oven to reach temperature. Besides the time savings there is also the power savings.

There are two things about this product that I would change. First, the baking pan supplied is subject to significant torsion (twisting) if baking for an extended period of time. This has not really bothered me much (and the pan returns to normal flat shape when cooled) but I suspect that it would make baking something like brownie batter a problem. The second item I actually consider a design deficiency. There is a timer built into the unit, but it only buzzes when time has expired and will not turn the cooking elements off. This was a surprise to me, as our previous toaster oven's timer did turn off the power.

Even with these couple of short comings, this is an outstanding appliance that I would highly recommend it to anyone.

Love love love this popcorn maker! popcorn is fresh and fluffy. The plastic container that the popcorn pops into is a little hard to clean, best for using the dishwasher. The little clips that attach the top to the bottom have both "disappeared" and it no longer pops correctly...takes a long time. plan on replacning it and trying again, being more careful lifting the top off. hope the 2nd one works better.

Sorry, Cuisineart. I like plenty of your other products but this one is a bust!

First- the rotator bar kept getting jammed befor the corn was done popping burning the popcorn.

Second- the lid that keeps the grease and salt from draining out of the "bucket" kept popping off. Finally I could not even get the lid on at all, and had to pour the popcorn into another bowl.

Third- clamp/latch on one side that hold the hotplate onto the base broke.

I'm done! this one is going back to [...]!

"Clarifying Aluminum Base Controversy and Rec for Oven Space Issue" 2009-04-08
By T. Pham (Seattle, WA)
America's Test Kitchen, in their 2008 review of this roasting pan states that the pan has an encapsulated aluminum base. Since America's Test Kitchen is known for its diligence for researching and testing kitchen products, I was surprised to see that some of the reviews on Amazon.com stating the contrary.

Thus, I went to the Cuisinart website, and the short product info list does not list this feature for the roasting pan (vs other pans in the Chef Classic Stainless Steel line). However, when I called Cuisinart product information line (1-800-726-0190), I was told that this particular roasting pan does have an encapsulated aluminum base.

So bottom line, Amazon product information and America Test Kitchen (ATK) review is correct.

For those that have smaller oven, check out Calphalon Contemporary Stainless Special-Value 16-Inch Roaster with Nonstick Roasting Rack, which is the top recommended choice from ATK. (This product was the #2 choice.)

"Looks good, but that's about it" 2009-09-17
By M. Park
I couldn't believe what I got out the box. It just looked sooooo cheap. There's no push button to open the door. The door handle is made of plastic with chrome paint. The entire casing is the thinnest steel they could have possibly used. But it looks fine. I had this thing for around 6 months. Tonight I heard a pop, went to the kitchen and thought something in a bottle popped or something. Thought nothing of it until a few hours later I was hungry and decided to zap some Hot Pockets...but the microwave was off! So I thought it was the outlet, so I reset the circuit breaker and nothing. I changed outlets and it turns back on. Great, so I pop in the plate and it's going...for 7 seconds and shuts off. Blank screen. WTF right? I tried at different power settings thinking it might be too much, which would be odd since for the past 6 months it's been going great. So I try other outlets throughout the house and all does the same, 7 seconds and blank.

Reason I gave it 2 stars is because while it was working it was going well, but not working...well that deserves much less stars.

Anyways, I wrote CS an email seeing what I can do about this but after reading other reviews of their CS...looks like I'm stuck with a bs product that should never have hit the shelves.

"Hit it hard and it works" 2009-06-27
By J. Hampshire (Olympia, WA)
Used the microwave for about 10 months until one day it wouldn't start. Instead when you push start it counts down the time. I found that smacking the top would occasionally get it to work, until the cook cycle is done. Put something in afterward and it's back to counting down. This microwave rubbed me the wrong way from the start. Wasn't intuitive and I'm not going to bother reading the instructions. Could never set the cooking power and time - just used the pre-set buttons. The start/stop buttons look the same and so I push stop when I want start - can't recommend a microwave that last less than a year and only operates intermittenly when smacked.

"DO NOT BUY THIS MICROWAVE!!!!!" 2009-06-23
By speedybee62
I've owned this unit for less than a year and it has failed in a disturbing way. First it started turning itself on whenever I opened the door and when I closed the door continued running and none of the buttons would stop it. I figured if I unplugged it and plugged it back in that would reset it, but it didn't. The thing would have been running for lord knows how long. Then, out of the blue it just started on its own. I was sitting in the living room thinking the fridge was awfully loud until I realized it had been the microwave just doing its thing! I have a ground-fault outlet, so I know a surge wasn't the issue and I barely ever use this thing. Food re-heat and popcorn. I'm not about to find a sturdy box that MIGHT keep this safe, pay to ship this back and pay another $15 for them to return it to me and not even know if they'll fix it, etc. A $125 mistake going to the trash heap. I will NEVER buy a Cuisinart again and highly suggest you avoid them at all costs.

I have only had it for 9 months and it started sparking inside when I would microwave the simplest things (like pasta with butter in a plastic container) I kept using it thinking it was me - and a week later the food CAUGHT ON FIRE! (asparagus/butter in a plastic container) Okay..fine maybe i got a bad microwave. I can handle that. What i can't handle is the fact that CUISINART COULD CARE LESS! The are SOOOO rude on the phone. They wanted ME to pay for shipping both to them and back to me. They said it would take 8 weeks to REPAIR. yes...repair. Um...I don't think i feel safe with repaired microwave that catches food on fire. When I asked for a manager - they were even more rude. When I asked for THEIR manager - he was even worse. He actually told me that I may think I'm number one but there are thousands of other customers who have problems who need attention too. I was asking if they could send me a loaner or a replacement since I have a 9 month old daughter that I am constantly warming up meals for. I couldn't go without a microwave for 8 weeks and I DEFINITELY DIDNT THINK I SHOULD PAY FOR IT. Luckily...Macy's was so shocked by my experience that they let me return the item for a different product even without my receipt. Thank god for macys otherwise I would have been out a lot of money. I WILL NEVER EVER BUY CUISINART AGAIN - What good is a product if the company won't back it.

"better than the Saeco Magic Cappuccino machine" 2009-09-16
By M. Stowers (West Virginia)
Used my new Cuisinart Espresso Machine for the first time today. Made a fantastic latte and then a cappuccino. I have a Saeco and the Cuisinart was purchased so I could put the Saeco in our motor home and use the Cuisinart in our house. I'll hate to go back to the Saeco (while on the road) now that I've tasted the espresso the Cuisinart can make. It's not nearly as loud as the Saeco either. Easy to use. I had no problems what so ever with getting the correct amount of grounds or the tamping pressure. The DVD was a great supplement to the instruction booklet. Also the steam wand makes perfect frothed milk.

 "Great for the price" 2009-09-07
By Jerry L. Bertrand
After using a cheap espresso machine for a number of years I decided to take the plunge and purchase a real espresso maker. After some research I chose the EM-100. The biggest reason for choosing this unit was the positive reviews and the price

I found the unit very easy to use. Espresso comes out perfect every time. The steamer takes a while to get going but once it starts you get great steamed milk. The DVD that comes with the unit was very helpful. The stainless steel cup is rather small so I had to purchase a bigger one.

This espresso maker will provide you with great espresso/lattes provided you clean the unit after every use, especially the steaming wand.

"steam is better for coffee" 2009-08-21
By Ioannis Koufopoulos
I cannot say I am very happy with the new machine.

Water pressure is not as good as steam.

More cleaning.

You cannot make 3 or 4 coffee at once

water tank is not that big

If you have steam coffee machine and you move to water think about it.

"Good Machine w/ Slight problem" 2009-08-03
By Justin Martirano
This is the 3rd Espresso Machine I have used and the first one I purchased. My two previous roommates had krups machines that worked great and produced a good espresso w/ good crème. This machine is very good as well. It is relatively small, which works nicely cause I am limited on counter space. It heats up quickly (~ 1minute), steams milk quickly and easily and produces a good shot of espresso. My problem with the machine and reason for giving it a 3 star review is the beginnings of the espresso are watered down. I am using pods and for some reason when I first flip the switch and the machine begins producing espresso the first 3-5 seconds the liquid is almost clear. After a few seconds the liquid changes consistency and you can noticeably tell the difference. So, what I have been doing is just let the machine run for a few seconds before I slide my cup underneath. Using this method I get a fairly consistent shot w/ good crème. The more espresso shots you make the better/darker they become. My only problem is getting the first one to be as dark as the 2nd or 3rd.

"Pretty Good for the money..." 2009-07-29
By Karen Seavey (Chicago, IL)
I spend way too much on coffee... so when I cashed in my coins I decided to look again at espresso machines. After reading lots of reviews, and comparing the worst that people had to say about a variety of machines (Think about it; if the worst people say is that its a little slow, or the steam wand drips- I can live with that... if reviews said, "it quits working after a few weeks" I avoided those, even if it got good reviews overall.) I finally took a chance on the Cuisinart... and although its only been a couple of weeks, I am pretty happy.

I grind the coffee fine (not extra) and pack it fairly firmly and the espresso is really pretty good. My first few draws were ok but it got better when I adjusted the grind to a little finer grind. The machine warms up pretty quickly, and I like the water tank (Its about an inch thick and fits on the back of the machine. You can lift it off to fill, or just open the lid and pour water in. I have not had any problems. If problems develop, I will add that to this review.
